Art Deco Hat

When wondering around an Art Deco shop in Napier I discovered a gorgeous navy hat. I decided to cover it with fabric in shades of grey to match a simple fitted dress. To show off the hat, I had a little photo shoot with my lovely friend, Niki. She's quite the talented photographer!

Pasifika Design Development

Here is a short clip briefly showing my Pasifika design development process. It begins with husk exploration, which inpired me to think of sculpture and design. Roughs follow, depicting my ideas and finally a small board illustrates the placement and colour scheme of a final dress and head piece.

Corn Husk Fascinator

This fascinator is made from a dried corn husk. I discovered the husk and decided to spray paint it orange it to match an outfit. The process was super easy and inspired me to futher develop the idea of turning vegetation into fashion. So, for an upcoming Pasifika project I am going to make an outfit from corn husks. Keep a look out for the developments!

Headwear

I absolutely love to create headwear! I think it completes an outfit and turns something from drab to fab. This picture is of my friend Kate and I wearing outfits and headwear I made and designed. Searching for different materials is great fun and I always seem to find the best goodies at the most unusual places. The red stalk like features on the grey fascinator were found at a curiosity shop in a small town. I have also created a hat out of a corn husk, so look out for that in the my next post!

Press Pack Assignment

The life of a fashion student is far from glamorous as some may assume, although most assignments are fun and creative, including this one.

The brief was to create a press pack, which included promotional images among other things. The picture to the left is one of my images!

I made the hat to compliment an outfit I created in my first year of the fashion degree. Inspired by the Garden of Nonsense from Alice in Wonderland, particularly the red and green cabbages.
